How I Choose My Book Covers

As an author, choosing a book cover is one of my favorite parts of publishing and also how I choose a book!!

A cover isn’t just artwork. It’s a promise of what’s inside and tells readers what kind of story they’re about to step into. It has to capture the emotion, tone, and intensity of the world inside the pages.

Before I published my first Billionheiress book, I had the cover and my book was written around that. I find myself seeing something and thinking “ooh, that’s a great book cover—now I have to write a book around that.”

It’s a vibe—bold, romantic, mysterious, or atmospheric. I find inspiration constantly—from books, old movies—it’s that spark of energy.

What inspires you when you are creating your book cover—is it genre expectations or reader preferences, trends.

I’ve learned a lot along the way and I have learned every book has its own story, long before the first page is even written.

Stay tuned; my next cover might surprise you.

Books I’m Loving Right Now

Like all of you—if you are here reading my blog—you love to read. I remember back in the day, when romance novels were Harlequin Romance—then some decades later Danielle Steel appeared on the scene—then a few years later, we got Fabio style contemporary romance covers—who can forget the guy with the long blond hair blowing in the wind (on every cover), as he “embraced” the beautiful woman with the long hair—you remember that woman—the one whose big breasts were popping out of her evening gown—in front of a mansion usually. I’m laughing as I type…

Then of course my taste changed and I started in with Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and eventually James Patterson, creator of the Alex Cross series of books—how I loved them and I only bought them in hardcover—to this day when I go to thrift stores, I always go to the books—and scour looking for hard covers—to this day James Patterson is one of my favorite authors.

Now while I love contemporary romance—again I am finding my taste is being drawn to the mafia romances—LJ Shen and Ana Huang have become two of my favorites.

A book that I happen to come across today was The Wallflower by Francesca Black. What grabbed me was the cover and when I read the blurb, I thought I have got to read this book.

These stories, characters, and themes have kept me inspired while working on my own books. I’ll share more recommendations and my newsletters as my website nears completion.

Happy reading, and more book recommendations coming soon.

Behind the Scenes of My Writing Journey

Writing has always been the way I process the world—the good, the bad, and the ugly—all of us have been there, right? Creating the Billionheiress™️Series has been one of the most creative part and rewarding part of this journey. While I love contemporary romance, it seems to perpetuate the “only men are the billionaires” and nothing can be farther from the truth. Do you know how many women billionaires there are in today’s world—yet you never really hear about them. That’s where I got the idea for my books.

Each book begins with a betrayal. And in spite of it all, she never gives up on love. I love exploring complicated relationships, emotional growth, and strong woman who fight their way back to love.

I’ll be sharing updates here, along with behind-the-scenes stories and upcoming books. I’m excited to take you along for the ride.

P.S. One of the books, it’s my story.

That’s it—signing off—Violet Crane, the original Billionheiress 💋
